The Science of Imposter Syndrome

A week has passed, my journey homeward bound,
Each afternoon from work, my heart felt bound.
But today, within my room, I seek to hide,
To cleanse my soul, this imposter’s grip untied.

Can the world perceive my inner strife?
Pretending to be enough in this life,
I suspect they see through my charade,
Stepping into the streets, their looks betray.

Behind warm smiles, their kindness hides a guise,
I sense their judgment, and it cuts like knives,
Their warmth belies the fraudulence I bear,
Hanging onto bones, weighed down by despair.

Their kindness cloaked, a shield, a facade,
For I know their glances, my flaws, they applaud,
My skin feels tainted, a canvas of deceit,
Struggling to hide, in clothing incomplete.

Finding peace within, an arduous quest,
When my reflection screams failure, I confess.

Depression vs. Imposter Syndrome

I’ve nursed my depression, its embrace so cold,
As I opened home’s door, her grip I’d behold.
But, imposter syndrome, the true imposter, came,
With her cunning disguise, she played a dangerous game.

I now see clearly, her deceitful sway,
She masqueraded as depression, in her own way,
I fell for her illusion, attention she sought,
And I embraced her, without a second thought.

It’s easier to accept myself as flawed,
But the world’s judgment feels brutally clawed,
I’d rather wed depression, a familiar foe,
Than let imposter syndrome’s torment grow.

I can manage my depression, keep it at bay,
But imposter syndrome’s hold won’t fade away,
She reflects my fears in the eyes I meet,
To conquer her grip, vulnerability I must greet.

So, I’ll face the terror I’ve tried to evade,
Express my feelings, in truth, I’ll confide,
To overcome this demon, this inner strife,
And heal the wounds that cut deep into life.
